How to Implement BIM

$229.00

BIM adoption is more about process change than technology adoption. So for many, the question is not when to adopt but how – how to get started, how to leverage BIM to its full extent, how to implement BIM in different project environments, and how to set up the necessary processes and protocols to maximize the benefits.

This 6-Part OnDemand Course includes access to recordings and handouts for an entire year.

Description

Building Information Modeling (BIM) has seen a dramatic growth in adoption rates in recent years. The potential benefits of BIM are numerous: increased productivity, less cost growth, earlier project delivery, enhanced collaboration, less rework and many additional benefits.

But getting started is not easy. The reality is that BIM adoption is more about process change than technology adoption. So for many, the question is not when to adopt but how – how to get started, how to leverage BIM to its full extent, how to implement BIM in different project environments, and how to set up the necessary processes and protocols to maximize the benefits.

How to Implement BIM into an Architecture Practice
  • 6-part OnDemand course
  • Online access to course materials for one year
  • Includes educational videos and handouts

01: Defining Fundamental BIM Concepts, Terms & Tools

The first course is a high level review of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and the concepts that are critical to a successful implementation. We will discuss strategies for organizing a BIM project, how to establish modeling requirements and methods to integrating BIM based on project size and type.

02: Implementing BIM in the Design Phase

The second course focuses on how to take advantage of BIM during the Design Phase to leverage the model. We will discuss both the challenges and opportunities when you implement BIM early in the project as well as how to integrate BIM with popular design tools, such as SketchUp or Rhino, that are commonly used by architects in the design phase.

03: Visualization with BIM – Illustration to Light Simulation

The third course reviews strategies for creating illustrations, renderings, animations and virtual reality from BIM models. We will discuss the visualization technologies available internal to BIM authoring tools as well as review cutting-edge third party products that not only enhance the quality of renderings but provide a faster, easier to use process for producing the visualization.

04:Strategies for Creating Documents from a BIM Model

The fourth course discusses the methodologies and strategies for producing 2D documents from 3D BIM models. If setup correctly a BIM model can produce documents without a lot of rework and with the graphic output quality firms have come to expect from past CAD programs. We will discuss methods to adopt your existing standards within a BIM program as well as new opportunities for 3D documentation.

05: Collaboration from Small to Large Teams

The fifth course focuses on how to collaborate within a BIM environment both locally within an office as well as externally through the internet. We will review internal BIM Server applications available within BIM tools as well as the growing opportunities for Cloud-Based BIM Server services that can outsource the technology overhead and server management.

06: Integrating Sustainability into the BIM Process

The sixth course reviews how to analyze the BIM model for energy loads and LEED requirements with a focus on sustainable design. In this session we will discuss energy analysis tools, how to setup a BIM model for LEED requirements and modeling methods that will allow a BIM model to work efficiently with these analysis tools as well as avoid common problems.
