 DESIGNrealized Open BIM with ArchiCAD

OpenBIM ArchiCADTechnology, a central factor for success under many circumstances, becomes even more so when architectural firms re-tool to increase efficiency. In the upcoming DESIGNrealized program, a series of expert speakers will present discussions that explore how to improve workflow and the design and construction process through technology such as BIM, project coordination tools, energy analysis and social media.

The speakers list has just been announced for 2013. Of note is the speaker slated for March 5: ARCHICAD user, Russ Sanders, from Orcutt | Winslow will present “Open BIM: Capturing, Transferring, Exchanging Data.” The Gila River Healthcare Administrative offices project will serve as the case study for his presentation. He is responsible for the development as well as the marketing of many different project types like Mixed-use, Hospitality, etc.

Using the Gila project, Sanders will demonstrate how to implement an Open BIM coordination and management process successfully. Sanders has first-hand knowledge to share about the ways multiple technologies between the owner, architect, consultants, contractor and sub-contractors were integrated into a collaborative model based on the buildingSMART Data Model workflow and standards. The Open BIM workflow implemented on the Gila project included Excel, Onuma Planning System, ArchiCAD, EcoDesigner, Revit and Solibri.
